Have
you heard of adrenaline? Have you ever felt the adrenaline rush? I have.
That
was the moment when I had my first interaction with the corporate world where I
met the VP Marketing, TTK Prestige Mr Dinesh Garg and DGM Marketing, Mr G. S. Anil
Kumar who addressed the gathering of 22 interns at Bangalore corporate office.
I realised then, that I was on the right track towards achieving my dreams and
all the credit goes to my college KIAMS, for giving me this opportunity. When there
is someone from your family to help you at every step of your journey, then the
going gets easier. I was privileged to have the support of two of the elder
brothers of my family, the KIAMS family, Mr Rajeev Bharadwaj and Mr Ankur
Agarwal, two of our alumni who took all the efforts to make our life easier and
sail through the tough times during my sip at TTK Prestige, the number 1
kitchen appliances company in the country, which has planned to enter into
water-purifier market.
I was supposed to carry out a research in
Delhi & NCR for the purpose of understanding the market, customer’s
expectations, dealer’s expectations, existing competition and the extent of
competition, challenges and opportunities in the market, estimating the market
size and the operating structure of the company. I visited 260 outlets across
the region, spoke to the dealers and the customers at the point of sale, in a
span of 5 weeks.
The experience was great, like never before, I still remember
like it happened yesterday. As I pushed myself trying to get inputs from a
great variety of people, I got to see the other side of the sellers who appear
so sweet and soft spoken to the customers. I tried to understand the way the
dealers and sellers worked, but got a mere glimpse of it. But for a fresher
like me, I think that too, is a great learning experience. The classroom
teachings are no doubt different from actual life, but it is co-related and we
should have the ability to understand the co-relation and be able to draw
inferences from it, and this is where, lies the opportunity to show case oneself.
In the real world, you can’t excel if you are a parrot, though you may have
outstanding marks. Each day for me, was a great learning experience.
It
appeared as if the Sun was not just showering light and heat on Delhi, but
learning too on me. Be it the market or the office, there was always something
to be learnt, be it soft skills or inter personnel skills. What I think helped
me most during these days was my calm attitude and ability to keep my cool in
tense situations, my wish to learn, the desire to push myself till the very end
and the desire to do something more, than what is expected from me. This is
what made me collect the largest sample amongst all the interns at TTK
Prestige. The people around me were great at the office and the support I got
from my alumni guide Mr. Arun and the college was fabulous. There were times
when I was completely bogged down and then help came from B13 my seniors, Mr
Rohit Returaj, Mr Chandan Mishra, Mr Abhishek Mehta, who did there SIP last
summer at the same company. I feel like writing on and on but I should conclude
with final words, it was a great experience and the professional in me is now
awake.
